Once you’ve joined YARR as a responder, you will be signed up to receive text alerts from us when people in the community are in need of support.
The texts will come from one of six numbers:
- 831 – 239 – 4289 (our hotline number)
- 813 – 524 – 0723
- 813 – 524 – 0623
- 831 – 480 – 5055
- 831 – 480 – 1427
- 831 – 480 – 1040
Please save these numbers as contacts in your phone so that you can tell when you’re being messaged by YARR and you don’t confuse our alerts for spam. And when you’re saving the numbers, please note that the area code for the second two numbers is “813” — that’s not a typo, these are not Santa Cruz numbers.
Finally, when you receive a text from us, we may ask you to text us back if you are able to respond to the event. When you text us back, the *only* phone number that can receive texts is the primary hotline number (the first number in the above list). Please never text back to the other numbers, even if you receive a text from that number.
The reason for this, briefly, is that phone companies limit how many texts-per-second a single phone number is allowed to send out, so the software we use includes these additional numbers so that our information can go out quickly to hundreds of people. However, to make the software run smoother, these additional numbers are only set up to send out texts and not receive calls or messages.
